Lubricant Additives and Raw Materials
A. S. Harrison & Co supplies a comprehensive range of lubricant additives and raw materials for the manufacture of lubricant greases and oils to the market. Along with the back-up resources from our principals, we are on hand to assist with formulation advice, and any other procurement services.
- Antifoam
- Used to reduce foaming in petroleum products
- Antioxidant (AO)
- Used to prolong the induction period of a base oil in the presence of oxidizing conditions and catalyst metals at elevated temperatures
- Antiwear (AW)
- Used to prevent direct metal-to-metal contact between the metal surfaces when an oil film is broken down
- Biodegradable Basestocks and Additives
- Vegetable and other biodegradable basestocks, plus additive components including thickeners, corrosion inhibitors, tackifiers and total packages.
- Corrosion Inhibitors (CI)
- Used to protect lubricated metal surfaces against chemical attack by water or other contaminants
- Demulsifiers
- Used to help separate oil / water emulsions
- Emulsifiers
- Used to promote the formation of a stable mixture of oil and water
- Extreme Pressure (EP)
- Used to prevent seizure conditions caused by direct metal-to-metal contact between the parts under high loads
- Fluoropolymers
- Used to enhance the performance of a lubricant under severe conditions
- Friction Reducers
- Used to increase lubricity between moving parts
- Group I, II and III Base Oils
- We have access to a broad range of refined mineral base oils
- Group IV and V Base Oils
- We offer an extensive array of synthetic PAO, ester and alkylated naphthalene base stocks
- Metal Deactivator
- Used to stabilise fluids by deactivating metal ions (especially copper)
- Molybdenum Disulfide
- Solid additive used to prevent sliding metal surfaces from seizing under boundary lubrication conditions
- Polybutene (PIB)
- A clear and colourless liquid oligomer used to impart increased viscosity
- Pour Point Depressants (PPD)
- Used to retard the adverse effects of wax crystallization, and lowers the pour point
- Rust Inhibitor
- Used to prevent the rusting of ferrous parts in the presence of water
- Tackifiers
- Used to provide adherence in fluid lubricants and stringiness in greases
- Total Packages
- Additive packages used in conjunction with specific base oils to create a finished lubricant – e.g. engine oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils, etc.
- Viscosity Index Improver (VII)
- Used to increase the viscosity of a fluid throughout its useful temperature range
